What is Breatharianism?

Breatharianism is a spiritual practice. It is commonly connected to an esoteric spiritual practice, and often is part of a larger spiritual tradition.  It is also connected to Eastern spiritual practitioners, which link this practice to yoga teachings.  Certain Jain belief seems to be connected to breatharianism, with some people who have reached perfect enlightenment being said to exist without any food or drink. In this circumstance, breatharianism can be seen as the natural result of extreme self-discipline taken to its utmost assumption.

People who exercise breatharianism are known as breatharians.  It has existed for some time, and comes up in number of cultures. Breatharians are people who are believe to continue living without eating any foods and water. The principle of breatharianism is that something besides food or water can sustain a human being, commonly either the Prana life force or sunlight and air itself. Most of the people who practice breatharianism, believe that by doing it, they are moving towards an ideal state of being, where the body becomes one with its “energetic” form of light, rather than its material form. Breatharianism is a philosophy that states that eating is not necessary for humans to live. Breatharians reveals that humans can receive all of the nutrition that they need from light and oxygen.

The real preparation of breatharianism differs in some ways.  Some breatharians claim to never eat but they drink, some says they never eat or drink and others admit that they eat occasionally to connect to the culture, but claimed that only on rare occasions for cultural reasons and not for physical nourishment.

Breatharianism is within human potential, but for most of the time it remains quiescent. Those who feel drawn to living on light nourishment can activate this potential, but this is not an easy task, it needs patience and beliefs.
